Background of the transformation
A business function within a large, global industrial company was undergoing a significant transition. With a newly appointed EVP and a refreshed corporate strategy, the leadership team of this function faced the challenge of aligning around a new direction, cultivating a more future-proof mindset, and overcoming resistance to change. To address these challenges, the EVP sought external support to develop the leadership team into a more cohesive, future-oriented group capable of leading through change.
The objective was twofold:

To build stronger trust and collaboration within the LT

To clarify the team’s collective role and direction in executing the transformation.

Additionally, the EVP wanted to develop and strengthen her own leadership through targeted coaching support during this critical transition phase.
How the development programme was implemented
The development program was designed to support both the leadership team as a group and its individual members. The process began with one-on-one interviews, which were synthesized into a narrative capturing the team’s diverse experiences and perspectives. This narrative served as a shared reflection of the current state and was used in the first workshop to identify key development focus areas: Clarity and Direction, Purpose of the Leadership Team, Trust and Accountability, and Shared Understanding and Alignment around the Needed Transformation.
Each workshop was tailored to these themes. Individual sparring sessions based on Work Personality assessments helped participants deepen their self-awareness and understand team dynamics. The program also included an Immunity to Change reflection to address and remove potential barriers to renewal, as well as observation of a LT meeting to further support learning and progress.
Throughout the journey, the team lead received one-on-one coaching to help steer the transformation. This was particularly valuable given the high-pressure business context. The program significantly accelerated the team's mutual trust, openness, and shared understanding and commitment of the required transformation. The team lead considered the coaching essential for successfully initiating the renewal under challenging conditions.
